What is UAE Change of Status?
A UAE change of status (also called status change or visa change) is the process of switching from one type of UAE visa to another without leaving the UAE. Common change of status scenarios: visitor visa to employment visa (found a job while on a tourist visit), employment visa to investor visa (left your employer and set up your own company), investor visa from one company to another (changed your UAE free zone company), spouse visa to employment visa (spouse decided to work independently), and student visa to employment visa (graduated and started working).
Is a Change of Status Always Possible?
Not all visa changes can be done inside the UAE. Some require exiting and re-entering. Generally possible inside UAE: visitor visa to employment visa (employer sponsored inside country), visitor visa to investor visa (with a UAE free zone company), expired-visa renewal (if within the grace period). May require exit and re-entry: if the UAE immigration system requires a clean entry stamp for certain visa categories.
