The UAE Blue Residency is a 10-year renewable residence visa introduced in 2023 for individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental sustainability and climate action. Here is how to qualify and apply.
What Is the UAE Blue Residency?
Announced by Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Blue Residency rewards individuals who have demonstrated exceptional environmental work. It is part of the UAE’s broader commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and is the first residency visa globally explicitly linked to environmental credentials.
UAE Blue Residency Eligibility
The Blue Residency is available to individuals with notable contribution in one or more of: climate action (renewable energy projects, carbon reduction initiatives), environmental protection (biodiversity, marine conservation, wildlife), sustainable development (sustainable architecture, green urban planning, circular economy), and environmental research or academic contribution (published research, UN or international body recognition). The visa is NOT open to general application — eligible individuals are nominated by UAE environmental authorities, international environmental bodies, or via UAE government channels. There is no public application form as of 2025.
Benefits of UAE Blue Residency
Same benefits as the UAE Golden Visa: 10-year renewable UAE residence, ability to sponsor family members, no need for a UAE employer or business to maintain visa status, UAE residency certificate for banking and tax residency purposes, and multiple entry/exit without visa re-issuance. The Blue Residency is a prestige designation — it is not primarily a route for UAE business setup but rather recognition of exceptional environmental work.
