UAE visit visas (tourist visas) can be extended from inside the UAE without needing to exit and re-enter. Here is how to extend your stay legally.
UAE Visit Visa Extension Options
Online Extension (GDRFA App or Website): Dubai-entry visit visas can be extended online via the GDRFA Dubai app (available on iOS and Android) or at gdrfa.gov.ae. Select “Extend Residency” → Enter visa details → Pay the extension fee online. Extension: 30 days (additional fee for 60-day extension available). Fee: AED 600 for a 30-day extension (AED 300 service fee + AED 300 extension fee). Processing: instant approval in most cases.
In-Person Extension: Visit an Amer Centre (Dubai) or DNRD office (Abu Dhabi) with: original passport, your current UAE visit visa, and the extension fee. This option is available if the online extension fails or if you need a specific extension type not available online.
How Many Times Can You Extend?
Most UAE visit visas can be extended twice: first extension: 30 days, second extension: 30 days, total maximum stay: 90 days (for 30-day entry + 2 extensions). Single-entry 60-day or 90-day visit visas: check at GDRFA, as extension rules vary by visa type. After the maximum extension period, you must exit the UAE.
Extension vs. Visa Run
A “visa run” (exiting to Oman, Bahrain, or another country and re-entering) resets your visit visa. This is technically permitted but GDRFA may apply “Visit Visa Abuse” flagging for individuals who do multiple successive visa runs without a genuine travel purpose. Repeated visa runs with no clear UAE establishment purpose can result in visa denial on re-entry.
