The UAE launched a formal Remote Work Visa (Digital Nomad Visa) allowing foreign nationals to live in the UAE while working remotely for non-UAE employers. Here is a complete guide.

UAE Remote Work Visa Overview

The UAE Remote Work Visa was launched in 2021 under the Virtual Working Programme. It allows foreign nationals to: live in the UAE for 1 year (renewable), work for their existing foreign employer(s) remotely, benefit from UAE’s 0% personal income tax, access UAE banking and services, and sponsor family members as dependents. Important: this is NOT the same as the UAE Golden Visa. The Remote Work Visa is a 1-year renewable visa specifically for people employed by non-UAE companies.

UAE Remote Work Visa Requirements

Eligibility: employed by a company outside the UAE (self-employed is generally not accepted under this route — use a freelance permit instead), minimum salary: USD 3,500/month (approximately AED 12,850), and health insurance covering UAE. Required documents: passport (valid 6+ months), recent bank statements showing the monthly salary (3–6 months), employer confirmation letter, remote work contract or employment agreement, and health insurance policy valid in UAE. Application fee: USD 287 (approximately AED 1,050) for the visa application, plus USD 100 for Dubai-specific administration fees.

UAE Remote Work Visa Application Process

Step 1: Apply via the Dubai Virtual Working Programme portal (virtualworking.dubai.gov.ae) or via Amer Centre. Step 2: Submit documents, pay fees. Step 3: Processing time: 3–5 business days for initial approval. Step 4: Medical test in UAE (when you arrive). Step 5: Emirates ID application. Step 6: Visa stamped in passport. Total: approximately 2–3 weeks. The visa is renewed annually at similar cost and with updated salary proof.
