UAE Overstay Fines: How Much and How to Pay

📅 Last reviewed: August 4, 2026📋 By: UAE Freezone Compare Visa TeamFact-checked by UAE Freezone Compare Editorial Team

Overstaying a UAE visa beyond its validity date results in fines from the immigration authorities. Here is a complete 2025 guide to UAE overstay fines and how to pay them.

UAE Overstay Fine Rates

The standard UAE overstay fine is: AED 200 for the first day of overstay, PLUS AED 100 per additional day after the first day. There is no maximum cap on overstay fines. They accumulate daily. Example: 30 days overstay = AED 200 (day 1) + AED 100 x 29 (days 2-30) = AED 200 + AED 2,900 = AED 3,100 total. Additionally: overstay of 7+ days: travel ban (ban duration proportional to overstay period). Overstay of 6+ months: longer ban imposed by immigration. Overstay of 12 months or more: significant ban and possible criminal consequences in some cases.

How to Pay UAE Overstay Fines

Overstay fines must be paid before the visa holder can exit the UAE or renew their stay. Payment options: GDRFA Dubai Smart App (online payment for Dubai overstays), AMER Centre (service centres across Dubai, pay in cash or card), Dubai International Airport GDRFA desk (pay at exit), and approved typing centres (some can process overstay fine payment). Outside Dubai: the relevant emirate’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, etc.) processes overstay payments for that emirate.

Overstay Amnesty Programmes

The UAE periodically announces amnesty programmes that waive or reduce overstay fines and bans. These are typically announced by GDRFA Dubai or ICP with 30-90 days for eligible overstayers to regularise their status or exit fine-free. Monitor GDRFA Dubai social media (Twitter/X and Facebook) for amnesty announcements. During amnesty: the normal fine waiver applies even for long-term overstayers. After amnesty: standard fines and bans resume.
