UAE Business Licence Renewal Checklist 2026
Use this checklist to ensure your UAE free zone licence renewal is completed on time and without complications.
In this guide:
When to Renew
- Most free zone licences: Annual renewal; 1-year validity from issue date
- Renewal window: Most free zones send renewal reminder 60-90 days before expiry
- Grace period: Typically 30 days after expiry before deactivation (varies by free zone)
- Visa impact: If licence lapses, employee and investor visas can be affected
Renewal Checklist
- Receive renewal invoice: Confirm invoice amount matches your package; query if different
- Review activities: Confirm your business activities are still accurate; add/remove if needed
- Review visa quota: Confirm your office type and visa quota still meet your needs
- Renew any expired employee visas: Visa renewal and licence renewal are separate processes
- Pay renewal fee: Pay via free zone portal or bank transfer
- Receive renewed licence: Digital licence usually issued same day or next business day
- Update bank: Some banks require updated licence copy after renewal
- Update clients / government portals: If you are registered with EmaraTax, MOHRE, etc. — update licence copy there
Consequences of Not Renewing
- Licence expires: You cannot legally operate or invoice clients
- Visa issues: Existing employee and investor visas may be flagged
- Reinstatement fees: Re-activating a lapsed licence often costs more than timely renewal
- Bank account status: Bank may freeze account if licence is not renewed
