ISO 9001 Quality Management System
ISO 9001 is the world’s most recognised quality management certification. In the UAE: ISO 9001 is mandatory for bidding on many UAE government contracts (federal and emirate), required by large corporate clients as a supplier qualification criterion, and increasingly required by UAE banks as part of SME loan eligibility assessment. How to get ISO 9001 certified in UAE: implement a quality management system (QMS) that meets ISO 9001 requirements, undergo a Stage 1 documentation audit and Stage 2 site audit from an UKAS/DAkkS/ANAB-accredited certification body (e.g., Bureau Veritas UAE, SGS UAE, TÃœV SÃœD UAE), receive your ISO 9001 certificate (valid 3 years, annual surveillance audits). Cost: AED 8,000–25,000 for initial certification (depending on company size). Time: 3–6 months from gap assessment to certificate issue.
UAE Halal Certification
Halal certification is required for: food and beverages sold in UAE retail and foodservice, cosmetics and personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and any product marketed to Muslim consumers in the UAE or exported to GCC/OIC markets. UAE Halal certification is issued by: ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology) — the UAE federal standard, and Dubai Municipality (for Dubai-specific products). Halal certification for export: requires a MUI (Indonesia), JAKIM (Malaysia), or HFSAA (Saudi Arabia) equivalent — UAE domestic Halal certification is not always recognised internationally.
CE Marking for UAE Export to Europe
CE marking is required for products exported from UAE to EU/EEA countries — not for UAE domestic sales. CE marks EU conformity with product safety, health, and environmental requirements. Relevant for: UAE manufacturers or traders exporting electronics, machinery, medical devices, or construction products to Europe. UAE importers of CE-marked products must ensure the CE marking is valid — importing and reselling non-CE-marked products into the EU is a criminal offence in many EU member states.
