UAE Free Zone Setup Checklist 2026 — Everything You Need Before You Apply
Use this checklist before starting your UAE free zone company application to ensure you have everything ready.
Pre-Application Checklist
Documents to Prepare
- [ ] Passport with at least 6 months validity
- [ ] Passport-sized photographs (white background, 2 copies)
- [ ] Proof of current residential address: utility bill or bank statement dated within 3 months
- [ ] If currently employed in UAE: No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current UAE employer
- [ ] If applying as a company shareholder: Company documents (trade licence, MOA) of the shareholder company
Business Decisions to Make
- [ ] Decide your business activities (1-3 activities maximum in most free zones)
- [ ] Choose your company name (prepare 3 options in order of preference)
- [ ] Decide your company type: Single shareholder (FZE) or multiple shareholders (FZCO)
- [ ] Decide on visa needs: How many UAE visas do you need (self + employees + family)?
- [ ] Decide your office type: Flexi-desk (shared) or dedicated physical office?
Financial Preparation
- [ ] Confirm budget for year 1 setup including trade licence fees
- [ ] Confirm budget for UAE residence visa (if required): AED 3,000-6,000 per visa
- [ ] Confirm budget for health insurance (mandatory for UAE visa holders): AED 700-2,000/year
- [ ] Confirm bank opening minimum balance (varies by bank: AED 0-50,000+)
Banking Preparation
- [ ] Prepare a 1-page business plan (what you do, who your clients are, expected transaction sizes)
- [ ] Prepare 6-month personal bank statements from your home country
- [ ] If you have existing UAE income history: collect UAE bank statements or salary slips
Post-Incorporation Checklist
- [ ] Apply for UAE residence visa (if needed)
- [ ] Complete medical fitness test in UAE
- [ ] Complete Emirates ID biometrics
- [ ] Open UAE business bank account (start with Wio Business)
- [ ] Open UAE personal bank account
- [ ] Register for UAE VAT (if taxable supplies expected to exceed AED 375,000)
- [ ] Register for UAE Corporate Tax
