What is a UAE Free Zone Registered Agent?
A registered agent is an authorised business formation and management company that acts on behalf of a UAE free zone company owner for regulatory and administrative purposes. They are the liaison between the company owner and the free zone authority.
When is a Registered Agent Required?
RAKIC (RAK International Corporate Centre)
RAKIC companies MUST use a registered agent. RAKIC is an international business company (IBC) registry similar to BVI or Cayman Islands. All RAKIC companies are formed through registered agents (licensed RAKIC formation agents). The registered agent:
- Provides the registered address in RAK
- Handles regulatory filings with RAKIC
- Assists with annual renewal
- Acts as liaison for official RAKIC correspondence
Other UAE Free Zones
Most other UAE free zones (IFZA, DMCC, JAFZA, etc.) do NOT require a registered agent — you deal directly with the free zone authority. However, many entrepreneurs use business setup consultants who perform a similar function to help with paperwork and navigation.
